Ashcroft Inquiry gives Tories golden chance to change

(Illustration thanks to Anonemouse) William Rees-Mogg in his Times column this morning, here, comments on the threat to the Labour Party represented by the BNP. The Conservative Party riding high in the polls seems to believe that they just have to sit tight, rely on Cameron and Osborne's tailor dummy good looks and lack of thought or policies to safely garner a comfortable majority in an election which is inevitable within the next fifteen months. Nothing seems less likely to this sometimes fairly accurate forecaster. The traditional one hundred per cent reliable Conservative voter is about to take umbrage at the next phase of the banking crisis policies of the government for which Cameron and Osborne have offered no alternatives. Crowning that the inquiry into Lord Ashcroft's donations and other questions regarding his residency status, read here, are evidence of such overreaching greed, stupidity and incompetence amongst the party's present leadership that change becomes so obviously desirable that even the blindfolded mass of party members might begin to see the obvious. (The problem of the lack of obvious alternative leadership candidates is a separate issue for later consideration). Never mind the mass of voters outraged by the disastrous immigration non-policies of the present governments, those smugly and comfortably placed in their own homes in leafy suburbs with mortgages of less than 50 per cent of the already reduced house equity, are about to be outraged by this next governmental pilfering of their purses and wallets. If the Tories have no change the benefits will surge towards the UKIP or even the English Democrats. The BNP is too far left for the middle-classes, but the Tories ,it is becoming increasingly clear, are too out of touch, incompetent and corrupt to offer a realistic alternative. The early years of Cameron's aping of Blair is too recent not to be remembered with suitable prompting by opponents during an election campaign, let alone the standing ovation upon Blair's departure from the Commons chamber. If there is no election within the next 15 months, another possibility, then the eventual successors to New Labour will be the BNP or something horribly similar.

I agree with your general direction. Although I never considered you Mystic Meg!!

However I cannot agree that the 'middle classes' will not be attracted to the BNP. On the contrary I would say, from my conversations with many friends and colleagues who I consider middle class!

The BNP are not seen as Left! They are seen as a right wing party. They are also have policies which are attractive to the middle classes who are patriotic! who object to whole areas of this green and pleasant land being changed into a foreign land! Who are worried that no party, in government, give them a contrary view on the EU! and they see all politicians as on the 'take'! They see a Country in which the law abiding are ignored. Where the Courts appear to be on the side of the law breakers, and a country in which massive fraud by bankers is ignored - yet middle class pensioners are taken to court for not paying their Council Tax or Television Tax!

People are tired of these MP's and MEP's who are seen, rightly or wrongly as corrupt. That is why a protest vote to the BNP might, just might, awaken one party at least to what people want!

ukip failed the people. A few 'protests' was not enough, they should have been on a constant roadshow through the United Kingdom telling the people just as it is! They do not deserve the people's trust ever again.

For evil to thrive, good men need do nothing.

As a result, the perpetrators of massive fraud and levels of corruption strut the halls of power in the full knowledge that they are above the law.
Posturing and protestation does not alter the fact that such people avoid prosecution.

Prime ministers give taxpayer's money to individual educational establishments in the ratio 10:1 to enable the teaching of doctrines by religious bigots that seek to prove natural evolution is a lie in favour of a Man created deity!

Others deliberately and with forsight degade and denigrate the patriotism of this county's citizens by deliberately importing cultures without insisting upon fealty or loyalty to either country or crown.

Still others seek to further inflate bottomless pockets by misappropriating taxpayer's money by way of the expense sheet, and/or selling favours for money or later position.

Lastly, we are experiencing the results of allowing the expertise demonstrated by seniors to slip away, placing in control of life-giving financial stability younger, unqualified incompetents. Having overseen this debacle, they blame it on world problems rather than the ineptitude of encumbents paid fantastic salaries and bonuses to steer the ship around the rocks on which we now founder!
